Richard Braddock is a Partner and co-founder of Lexbridge.  He has over two decades of experience providing advice and assistance to governments on international trade and investment law and policy issues.  He has deep expertise in relation to regional trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, and provides advice, technical assistance and training across the entire range of trade and investment issues under the WTO, bilateral and plurilateral trade agreements – including ‘mega-regional’ agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Richard has supported multiple countries to accede to the WTO and regional trade agreements.  He has been a negotiator and legal advisor on some of the most significant trade negotiations in the Asia-Pacific region, including the CPTPP, negotiations with ASEAN, and FTAs between Australia and China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Chile, and Singapore.  
Richard was also a senior member of the legal team which successfully defended Australia’s first investor-state arbitration claim, challenging tobacco plain packaging.

 

Richard has previously worked as an international lawyer and treaty negotiator for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the ​Australian Government's Office of International Law in the Attorney-General's Department.
