General Public International Law

 

Lexbridge provides wide-ranging legal advice on the interpretation and application of public international law, including the law of treaties and the rules and principles of treaty interpretation; the law on state responsibility; sovereignty; jurisdiction; statehood; customary international law; and state and diplomatic immunity. 

This includes:

  • Advising on the sources of international law – including treaties, custom, general principles and subsidiary sources for determining international law

  • Support with the interpretation and application of the law of treaties, in particular the rules and principles of treaty interpretation

  • Advising on the status and interpretation of non-treaty instruments

  • Support with the law on state responsibility 

  • Advising on complex matters relating to sovereignty, jurisdiction and statehood

  • Advising on the interpretation and application of customary international law and its relationship with other sources of international law

  • Advising on foreign state immunity and diplomatic and consular immunity

  • Support with international law on sanctions – including United Nations Collective Sanctions, and autonomous (unilateral) sanctions

  • Supporting clients to navigate the simultaneous application of different bodies of international law
