Environment and Resources

Lexbridge advises governments, international organisations and industry on the legal and policy challenges arising from environmental protection, climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources. Our expertise spans international and domestic regulatory frameworks, treaty negotiations and environmental governance.

We have extensive experience supporting governments in the negotiation and implementation of major international environmental agreements, including global climate change instruments (Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol) and emissions trading arrangements. Our lawyers have advised on the development of climate policy, carbon markets and legal frameworks that enable governments to meet their international obligations while supporting sustainable economic growth.

Our practice also includes advising on the emerging legal frameworks governing the energy transition, including the regulation of renewable energy projects, hydrogen industries and other low-emissions technologies. We have assisted governments in developing national legislation and regulatory regimes to support investment while balancing environmental and community interests.

We also regularly advise on the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources, biodiversity and fisheries, including matters relating to regional fisheries management and emerging international agreements on marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction.
